The
Modenese province is a strongly developed area, whose per capita
income is at the top of the list of the most advanced Italian
and European provinces, as the well-known German Länder or
some Scandinavian regions. The industrialization process of the
Modenese areas and northeast Italy is the element that has mainly
encouraged the economic growth of the so-called Third Italy.
Besides the per capita income, the Modenese economy is characterized
by high number of medium and small concerns, high employment rate
and numerous international exchanges.
The territory counts about 650,000 inhabitants and more than 67,000
companies. There is approximately a company every 10 inhabitants,
representing one of the highest indexes in Europe.
In fact, the Modenese companies have a strong international feeling,
for example their foreign earnings amount to 8,4 billions of Euros.
The sectors that mainly export their products are: the mechanical,
with the means of transport (45,0%), the ceramic (23,3%), and
the textile with clothes (8,7%).
The Modenese products reach countries nearly all over the world,
especially the European Union and the United States.
Today, this strong productive system faces the new challenges
of market globalization and the international increasing competition.
These kinds of factor are present not only in the competitive
ability of each company, but also in the relation system among
them, in their connection with the territory and the institutions
involved. The evolution towards organizational and more complex
orders has created a considerable growth in service demand. Thus,
a strong and dynamic Tertiary sustains the Modenese economy, which
is manufacture-oriented. The activities involved are: accounting,
commercial and financial services, software and ICT, managerial
and engineering consulting and communication.
This sector, together with a quick development of companies providing
services for people, has determined a speed-up of the tertiary
process of the provincial economy.
Public actions support the internatonalization process, the companies
technology research, the strengthening of associations for commercial
credit, the professional education, and the introduction of special
areas for locating the growing productive unities.
