 The
evolution of the Modenese productive structure has followed the
typical stages of modern economies, in which after a first step
of industrial growth, compared to the agricultural sector, the
assertion of the tertiary sector has occurred. Besides the services
for trade and tourism, (themes of the following two sections),
there is a strong system of services for companies capable of
supporting and helping the local businessmen and those intending
on starting a new business.
The banking system is represented by six provincial credit institutes,
and more than 450 branches of banking institutes of local and
national importance. Even the presence of consultant agencies
is quite remarkable. They are able to assist companies during
the stages of activities.
As regards Modena the development of the Information and Communications
Technology
is particularly dynamic. There are about 900 companies operating
in this field with more 4,500 employees.
The territory is also characterised by a strong tendency to form
associations with companies. These associations provide services
for their members directly. In addiction, there are several public,
private and mixed structures that offer advice and advanced services
about innovations, diffusion of technology, the supply of tests
and laboratory certifications on ceramics, mechanical products,
textiles, and foodstuffs.
Moreover the "Modena Esposizioni" trade fair complex
must be mentioned. It is an area of 50,000 sq m, today the centre
is ideal for housing prestigious trade fairs such as: Fiera Campionaria
di Modena, Modenantiquaria and "7.8.Novecento" (international
antiques fairs), Skipass (sports and winter tourism fair), Country
Life, Ambiente Lavoro Convention (fair for territorial pacts and
hygiene at the place of work) and Tan-Expo (funeral house products)
